Kalgoorlie Metro is helping provide HOPE to the most vulnerable this winter by asking for donations of money, canned food and blankets to go towards the Salvation Army Winter Appeal 2018.
Winter can be life-threatening for people who are poor. In Australia, winter death rates are 30% higher than summer.
“Families can’t keep their house warm enough. The power’s been cut off. They can’t afford to pay for heating.
The inside of their house feels colder than the inside of your fridge.
You know how cold it gets in winter, when the damp air surrounds you and chills you to the bone. It spreads dampness throughout the house causing illness. Children get sick, and the vulnerable become weak.
The hidden tragedy is one in 15 deaths in Australia is caused by cold.
Our Australian death rate during winter is almost DOUBLE that of Sweden, where winter is between -3 and -22 degrees.
That’s because people in poverty frequently have to live in run-down houses, often not much better than glorified tents.” – salvationarrmy.org.au
You can make a difference! Donations of money, canned food and blankets can be made to the Kalgoorlie Metro office, 49 Brookman Street, Kalgoorlie from the 1st May to 30th June 2018.
